Sacramento, CA – Senator Josh Newman has been named Chair of a newly ratified Subcommittee on Professions and Licensure. The subcommittee is housed under the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee.

The newly formed Subcommittee is made up of nine Senators, with Newman serving as Chair, and Senators Dodd, Fuller, Galgiani, Glazer, Hernandez, Hill, Pan and Wilk filling the remaining vacancies.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Josh Newman has successfully sent two of his seven bills assisting members of the armed services and their families, to Governor Jerry Brown for his signature. Senate Bills (SB) 455 and 747, each of which assists California's military and their families, passed out of the Assembly today with no opposition.

Sacramento, CA – The  State Senate voted unanimously today to adopt Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 55, authored by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), to commemorate August 7, 2017 as “Purple Heart Day” in the state of California. “Purple Heart Day” honors the brave men and women who have been wounded or killed in battle. SCR 55 was adopted in the Senate with enthusiastic bipartisan support.

Sacramento, CA – In his inaugural term as a California State Senator, Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) has successfully secured several victories for the people of Senate District 29 in this year’s State Budget bill.  Public safety, schools, the environment, and local veterans were Newman’s top priorities for SD 29, in negotiations with the Governor’s office.

Sacramento, CA – A bill to allow parents to continue to choose which school district to send their children to has passed the State Senate on a 36-1 vote. Senate Bill (SB) 52 extends the sunset date for the School District of Choice program to July of 2022. The program is set to end in July of this year.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill (SB) 503, authored by Senator Josh Newman, passed the State Senate today with no opposition. The measure will allow taxpayers to continue to voluntarily contribute to a dozen tax check-off programs. The measure also extends the sunset date for the “Keep Arts in Schools” Fund to July 2022.

Sacramento, CA – Today, Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) was elected Chair of the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus. He will succeed outgoing Chair, Senator Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) who will now serve as Vice-Chair.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill (SB) 442, passed out of the Senate today with unanimous support. The bill authored by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), aims to update the existing “Swimming Pool Safety Act” of 1996 to require at least two of seven safety devices specified by the Act. The bill would also require home inspectors to ensure pool or spa areas are equipped with two of the seven specified devices, at the point of sale.
