La Habra, Calif. —  On Monday the La Habra City Council voted unanimously to approve agreements with the Coyote Village Homeowners Association and the California Department of Water Resources enabling the $8.5 million secured by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) to be utilized for the repair of the collapsed storm channel within the Coyote Village condominium complex. Successive collapses during storms, beginning in 2019, caused a collapse and created a chasm spanning more than 500 feet, directly through the center of the complex, creating safety risks and severe financial challenges for the homeowners’ association.

Sacramento, Calif. – A resolution establishing June 24, 2023 as “Play Day” in the State of California was unanimously passed by the California State Senate today by Senator Josh Newman, in connection with his related legislation (SB 291: “Recess for All,” which is pending in the Assembly), and in partnership with the LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund.




Sacramento, Calif. - Legislation authored by State Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), which would require school boards to provide more than 24 hours of notice if they intend to dismiss a California public school district leader, was approved today by the California State Senate.




Sacramento, Calif. —A constitutional amendment to reform and simplify California’s recall process passed out of the Senate Elections & Constitutional Amendments Committee yesterday, by a vote of 6-1. SCA 1, authored by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), would simplify the state-level recall ballot to present voters with a single question: whether or not an official should be removed from office.




Sacramento, Calif.— Building on some of the legislative work done as part of a landmark year for plastic and battery recycling in California, Senator Josh Newman has introduced a bill to create a statewide collection and recycling program for textiles. Under SB 707, producers of clothing and other textiles will be required to implement and fund an extended producer responsibility (EPR) program that will enhance recycling and increase reuse in this important sector.
