Reyes Issues Statement on Passage of Election Rigging Response Act

(SACRAMENTO) — Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) issued the following statement in response to passage of the Election Rigging Response Act (ACA 8; SB 280; AB 604), which asks California voters to approve newly drawn congressional districts to counter-balance Texas Republicans’ mid-decade district gerrymandering and election rigging. If the Act passes this week, a statewide measure will be on the ballot November 4. “Communities across the state and nation are being actively and, in many instances, permanently harmed by a government that has their worst interests at heart. After witnessing seven months of blatant assaults on our laws, our Constitution, and our humanity, voters see the Federal Administration for the abhorrent failure that it is. In response to public opinion, the President has gone to Texas and other Republican states to do what failures and Authoritarian governments do best when things don’t go their way: cheat and steal their way into power.

“California Democrats believe in the power of representative democracy; of fairness and accountability. We refuse to back down from this fight that has been forced upon us – and we’re doing so in line with our values and commitments, by bringing the fight straight to voters. It is our duty as California leaders to demonstrate good leadership to the rest of the nation, and I am so grateful and proud to be back in Session in time to exercise this duty on behalf of the Inland Empire.”
