Reyes Presents AB 1400 (Soria) Community College BSN Pilot Program on the Senate Floor

Thirteen areas within San Bernardino County are designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) by the Department of Health Care Access and Information, spanning both urban and rural regions.

AB 1400 represents a unique opportunity for community colleges like San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) to step up and be part of the solution, in continued partnership with California State University system.

This opportunity is crucial to the Inland Empire, because many students here are underrepresented, low-income, working adults, or student parents who face significant financial barriers to pursuing higher education, including the high costs associated with relocating for a BSN program.

AB 1400 offers community colleges like SBVC the chance to provide a BSN program, offering an affordable, local option for our students. This opportunity would allow more students to stay in their community, avoid the high costs of living elsewhere, and pursue a degree with strong job prospects in the growing healthcare field.
