The Faces of Our Bright Future

Hello my friends,

Now that the Legislature’s work in Sacramento is complete for the remainder of 2025 (and we wait patiently for the Governor’s What comes to mind when you think of public service? In this edition of my monthly newsletter, I’m lifting up the young professionals of Senate District 29, who are working in bold and creative ways to make our Inland Empire stronger and brighter for us all.

There’s another history making leader you need to know about – California’s very first Latina Senate President Pro Tempore. The task of the Senate President Pro Tem is to uplift and fight for the entire Caucus. Read on to learn more about how I know Monique Limón is the right fit for this role at this time.

Before you go, make sure to RSVP to my Holiday Open House & Toy Drive on December 9. We’d love to get merry with you, share all we’ve accomplished in the Senate this year, and collect lots of new toys for children in our communities. I look forward to seeing you there!

Meet the Bright Future of the Inland Empire

When we think of public servants, most of us immediately remember government employees such as firefighters, police officers, elected officials, and the like. After all, people in those professions are hired to work in the best interest of the greater good. They keep us safe, help us navigate difficult moments in our lives, and are always there when we need them the most.

We do not have to work directly for a government entity to be in service of the public, though. Public service is a calling from deep within our hearts to do something that helps us all in the best ways possible. It’s love for people that drives creative solutions, improves lives, and sets our communities up for a better tomorrow.

I’m here to tell you that the Inland Empire is packed with service-driven individuals leading us toward a brighter future every day. I know, because I had the pleasure of celebrating many of them at my annual 30 Under 30 Awards Ceremony this month. These outstanding young professionals are serving in bold and unique ways from within governments, non-profit organizations, businesses, and education alike. They are rising changemakers in public safety, music, media, fashion, community activism, and more. Though the work each does differs greatly from the rest in this distinguished group, the common theme among them is a desire to invest their talents and energy into their home and neighbors right here in the I.E.

And I’ve gotta tell you – they’re leading in style! See for yourself - Check out the program and pictures from the event or watch our fun video recapping the festivities.

Thanks for reading - See you soon!

California’s First Latina Senate President Takes the Helm

Congratulations to Senator Monique Limón (D- Santa Barbara) on being elected California’s first Latina Senate President Pro Tempore! The task of the Senate President is to uplift and fight for the entire Caucus and Senator Limón was born for this. She is a tested and proven leader whose approach to decision making is thoughtful, thorough, and collaborative.

Pro Tem Limón has been my Sacramento roommate since we both first started in the State Assembly in 2016, and she has become a dear and trusted friend. Like me, her values are rooted in justice for all, and she is driven by an ethical standard that is upheld with a strong sense of self. I know her decisions will be made in a thoughtful and thorough way and will be in the best interest of the Senate body and the people of California.

Pro Tem Limón has been at the helm since November 17, and I look forward to her capitol swearing in on January 5 – and the many successes that will follow!
