14 Bills, New Leadership & Back Home in the IE

September marks an important transition in our work on behalf of the 29th Senate District.
After a busy end to the Legislative Session in Sacramento, I am back home in the Inland Empire, meeting with residents, visiting communities, and continuing the work of delivering for our region.
I am incredibly proud that 14 bills from my legislative package reached the Governor’s desk this year. Each reflects conversations with the people and communities I represent and our commitment to protecting people, strengthening accountability, expanding opportunity, and improving quality of life across California.
I am also deeply honored to have been elected Vice Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus for the 2027–2028 Legislative Session. I look forward to stepping into this new role soon and helping elevate the voices, priorities, and opportunities of Latino communities throughout our state.
But our work is not finished. The Governor has until the end of September to act on legislation sent to his desk, including final budget bills passed by the Legislature in August. Those budget agreements will bring important investments and resources to the Inland Empire and the 29th Senate District, and I look forward to sharing more with you as they are finalized.

From the Capitol: 14 Bills Head to the Governor
We did it! After months of hearings, negotiations, amendments, and votes, 14 of my bills made it through the California Legislature and to the Governor’s desk.
These bills reflect priorities we hear about directly from the people of the Inland Empire — from protecting workers and expanding educational opportunities to strengthening transparency, accountability, environmental protections, and good government. Governor Newsom has until the end of September to act on bills sent to his desk. We’ll keep you updated as decisions are announced. End of Session also means long days and late nights, and none of this work happens alone. I want to take this moment to extend my deepest gratitude to Team Reyes — in both Sacramento and the District — for their extraordinary work throughout the legislative year. They lead with integrity and passion for community, and I’m so proud of them all.
Putting Redistricting in the Hands of the People
Among the bills awaiting the Governor's action is SB 1414, which would establish an independent redistricting commission in San Bernardino County beginning with the 2030 redistricting process.
The principle behind the bill is simple: voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.
SB 1414 would give an independent commission, rather than the Board of Supervisors, final authority for drawing the boundaries of San Bernardino County's five supervisorial districts.
Delivering Resources to the Inland Empire
The Legislature also completed its work in August on important budget measures that will direct state resources to communities throughout California.
My priority throughout the budget process remains clear: the Inland Empire deserves its fair share of California's investments.
Those agreements include resources that will benefit communities throughout our region. As the final budget bills are signed and funding details are confirmed, our office will share more about what those investments mean for the 29th Senate District.
Elected Vice Chair of the Latino Legislative Caucus
I’m so proud to share that I’ve been elected Vice Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus for the 2027–2028 Legislative Session and will be sworn into the role soon.
As the daughter of immigrants and a lifelong Inland Empire resident, I have long worked to expand opportunity and ensure that communities too often left out of important decisions have a meaningful voice in shaping them.
In this new leadership role, I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to advance the priorities of California’s Latino communities — from educational and economic opportunity to health, housing, environmental justice, worker protections, and representation.
Most importantly, I want young people across the Inland Empire to see themselves in the halls of government and know that their voices, experiences, and ideas belong there. Contact me and my team with any ideas you want to share.

From the District: Back Home in the Inland Empire!
After months of traveling between the Inland Empire and Sacramento for legislative session, I’m back in the district for meetings, community events, and constituent work through the remainder of the year.
There is no substitute for being in the community — hearing directly from residents, visiting local organizations and businesses, and bringing those voices back into the policymaking process.
And Team Reyes had a little fun celebrating the return home.

Assemblymember Robert Garcia and I are partnering with the San Bernardino Community Service Center to offer FREE immigration legal consultations in San Bernardino on September 19.
If you have questions about your immigration status or want to learn whether you may qualify for an immigration benefit, trusted legal assistance will be available.
Staff from my District Office will also be on hand to help constituents navigate state government, access resources, and answer legislative questions — just as we do every day.

Be Ready Before an Emergency Happens
