SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes (D–Colton) issued the following statement on the passing of Dolores Huerta, legendary labor and civil rights leader, pioneering organizer, and lifelong champion for justice:

“Today, we mourn the loss of a woman who changed the course of history, and I mourn the loss of someone who profoundly shaped my own life.

“Dolores Huerta taught generations of us that we did not have to accept the world as it was. That ordinary people, working together, could challenge powerful institutions, overcome injustice, and build something better.

“She didn't simply open doors for women like me. She taught us that we had the power to open them for others.

“To know Dolores was to witness extraordinary courage, conviction, and an unwavering belief in the dignity of every human being. She never forgot the people she was fighting for, and she never stopped fighting.

“She is our National Treasure. Her legacy lives in every worker who demands dignity, every woman who finds her voice, every young person who discovers their power, and every community that refuses to be forgotten.”

“My deepest condolences go to her beloved family and to the generations of organizers and advocates who loved her.

“Dolores gave us more than a rallying cry. She gave us a responsibility to one another.

“We will carry that responsibility forward.

“¡Sí se puede!”
