Senator Reyes Congratulates First Latina Senate President
This is a historic moment for this body. Today marks the 50th time a President Pro Tem has been sworn in here in California—and a new chapter in the leadership of this Senate. Today marks just the second time a woman has led this body, and the first time that leader reflects so many of our lived experiences.
The role of Senate President Pro Tem is one of the most demanding positions in this institution. It requires someone who can uplift and fight for the entire caucus—someone who understands that our work is difficult, our challenges are complex, and our perspectives are as diverse as the great state we represent. Fortunately, we have before us exactly that kind of leader.
Senator Monique Limón is a unifier, a collaborator, and someone who approaches every decision with care and intention. She is intelligent and she’s thoughtful. Under her leadership, decisions will be made in the best interest of this body—and ultimately, in the best interest of the people of California.
