That’s a Wrap! Here’s what we accomplished in Sacramento…

Hello my friends,

Now that the Legislature’s work in Sacramento is complete for the remainder of 2025 (and we wait patiently for the Governor’s signature on our bills), you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me here in the district. So, in this edition of my newsletter, I’m making sure you know how to connect with me over these next few months.

At the same time, many of you have expressed interest in more content that will help you understand the work we do in Sacramento and how it impacts your life, so I’ve provided a recap of all the exciting debates and bill votes that occurred over the last month of the 2025 Legislative Session.

Most people I run into while out and about don’t realize just how much our office can do for you. If you need help navigating state services, such as the DMV, or a professional licensing board, reach out to our office. We might be able to identify any obstacles in the way and help you get to a solution faster.

Before you finish your coffee or lunch break, scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for timely links to scholarship applications or websites that can update you on important current events.

Thanks for reading - See you soon!

Marching Toward a Healthier Inland Empire

Collage of Team Reyes in Action at the Capitol during End of Session.

The last months of the 2025 Legislative Session marked my official return to Sacramento after months of cancer treatments, and the pace was a stark reminder of just how much we do up there on any given day. From meeting with local officials on important policy and budgetary issues, to holding press conferences and attending rallies about timely announcements, and debating controversial bills or negotiating for various program reforms, Sacramento keeps us busier than we can often plan for. By the close of Session each year, the Capitol community just might be rewarded by progress on issues that are dear to our hearts and homes.

For me, nine bills from my 2025 Legislative Package passed both houses of the Legislature and have either been signed by the Governor, or are on his desk awaiting a final decision. These bills address issues of youth safety, immigrant and worker rights, affordable housing, and reforms to the justice system. These are all worthy policies, and you can read more about them on my website

I’d like to highlight two bills, because they are extensions of work I’ve done over several years to improve the health of our community. Since my start in the Assembly nine years ago, I have worked to build provisions into the law that will improve our air quality and protect Inland Empire communities from the drastic increase of warehouse development. Although it can be frustrating to have to accept small steps one year at a time toward the change we want to see, building consensus leads to progress, and that often takes time, patience, and diligence. So, I find it very rewarding that these bills continue to find success each year.

Last year, Assembly Bill 98 by both Assemblymember Carrillo and myself established a standardized framework for planning and building warehouses beginning in January 2026. This year, Carrillo and I built on AB 98 reforms through Senate Bill 414, which strengthened oversight of these building projects to protect communities like ours from environmental harm. The bill is awaiting a signature by the Governor.

Another bill that was successful this year was SB 352. This environmental justice policy, which has already been signed by the Governor, strengthens AB 617 (2018) air quality monitoring programs in vulnerable communities. Importantly, SB 352 also holds state leaders accountable for the progress of these programs. This is a big win for communities like ours because it provides ongoing funding so that state agencies are able to keep the promises made by AB 617 to make our air healthier – and it requires agency leaders to show us exactly how it’s working.

My team in Sacramento is already working to draft policies that will continue the march toward improvements in our health and environment. If you have ideas, feel free to share them through the contact form on my website

Senior Advocacy Week

Senior Advocacy Week Collage

Each year, my team and I dedicate one week to visiting senior communities across the district. This year, we had the privilege of meeting and bringing resources to over 800 senior citizens in partnership with Assemblymember Robert Garcia, local organizations, and over a dozen senior centers. Through the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino, we were able to deliver fresh and shelf stable groceries. The County of San Bernardino Department of Aging and Wise and Healthy Aging were on hand with information about ombudsman and advocacy services they offer throughout the year. Assemblymember Garcia and I made sure attendees know how to reach out to our offices for support or ideas for future legislation. For a bit of fun, our staff served up ice cream or lunches and we all spent time learning about issues unique to seniors.

I’m so grateful to all of our partners for making this annual event a success. More pictures can be viewed and downloaded on my website.
